Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

For what Ebert makes out to be a moderately mundane movie, Rise gets 3 stars out of 4?

Three stars is an average movie for Ebert. Read a two-star review; those are movies he doesn't like.

I'm going to check it out either at a midnight show tonight or tomorrow afternoon. I'm hearing the CGI Caesar steals the show.

And yeah, that makes sense for a 3 star review. He's saying if the ads make you think it is going to be a big dumb action movie, you're going to get what you expected, but not be offended by it. As opposed to say.....anything Michael Bay has ever done.

I hate to say it, but Transformers was OK. Still, I'd be tempted to kick him in the nuts for the coon and buck show that started off Transformers 2.

I just came from the midnight show. I give it a 7 out of 10. Really a 7.5 out of 10.

The only knocks:
One of the plots of the movie is ridiculous compared to another aspect.
James Franco.
Some of the dialogue is cheesy, especially at the start of the movie

But Serkis as Ceasar is amazing, and the last half hour is good. I do have to agree that the movie doesn't have an idea, argument, or philosophy in it though, but that's okay for the first part of a reboot. (I said the same about Star Trek).

And people with their FUCKING cellphones and texting! At a midnight show. For a nerd film. I had to tap the woman next to me who was on Facebook during an important scene. I stared at her when she looked at me. Then I said, "Your phone?" And she said, (misunderstanding me), "You want me to add you to Facebook!?"

I'm not making this shit up.

She was a mother, who was there with her kid and husband, I guess. The *kid* told her to turn the phone off.

BTW, I just really fucking offended a co-worker by saying that I saw this movie...

How can someone be offended that you saw a movie?

"I find the whole concept of Planet of the Apes to be offensive and stupid."

Exact quote.

Have they actually seen any of these movies? They're not really about apes. Also, that doesn't really explain how merely viewing the movie is offensive. Perhaps I am holding this person to unrealistic standards.

P.S. You never told us whether the mother was hot.

She's a young lady. A huge Harry Potter fan. Her complaints were, and this is almost verbatim:

"Man, it just looks so stupid. I mean, monkeys have taken over the Earth? I have problems with any movie that makes animals out to look bad. There's some shark movie coming out that is doing the same plot. And then it is also a problem with people. I mean, if people in real life actually tried to become smarter by testing on animals, they'd deserve anything that came to them when the animals became smarter. These movies make animals look horrible and make humans out to be more dumb than we actually are."

I also think she does movie reviews under the name, "Miss Anne Thrope."

She's also added that if it was her in the theatre she would have texted and Facebooked throughtout the entire thing as well.
