I saw a report from Al Jazeera that predicts social unrest from the same source. They talked to some rich people and it is interesting how disconnected some of them are; they assume that because they worked hard and got rich, anyone who isn't rich simply didn't work hard. There is a sort of systemic contempt for the poor.

I know you got that right but I'm going to correct you anyway:

"They talked to some rich people and it is interesting how disconnected some of them are; they assume that because they inherited their riches, anyone who isn't rich simply didn't inherent theirs."

According to the same report, most billionaires today have earned their money. It is true that they come from rich families, by and large, and that means they had some awesome advantages like a Harvard education, but most of them did put in some sort of real effort. The illusion they're under isn't that they work hard, it's that everyone else doesn't.

That may be true but you may be over estimating their work. The connections you get from being a Harvard graduate means you're one of the few who will benefit from government policies that concentrate wealth in the hands of the the few. Not to mention the rock star mentality that drives up CEO wages for no reason.

I don't think we're in any disagreement here. I do believe that very rich people work approximately as hard as anyone else, but agree that they discount the advantages they had. White people do it; whatever advantages we do have in this society are (almost necessarily) invisible to us. How could it not be the same for rich people? Harvard was not even something most kids strive for, but is probably just natural if your dad went there.
