I think this is motivated by the desire for "balance." After giving the "Lie of the Year" award to Republicans in 2009 and 2010, Politifact is probably scared they'll be labeled "liberally biased" if they did it again.

That is why the Republican lying works, and it is why Democrats will be lying a lot more in the future. Idiocracy is a ridiculous exaggeration except when it comes to our political discourse.
